Skipton just off the Glenelg Highway on Blake Street, Skipton

A General Practitioner (GP) is a medical practitioner who treats acute and chronic illnesses and provides preventive care and health education for all ages and all sexes. They have particular skills in treating people with multiple health issues. We are fortunate to have a number of General Practitioners working with us in our GP Clinics they are:

Dr Pushpa Ravindranayagam
Dr Phyo (Phil) Kyaw
Dr Malcolm Anderson
Dr Mohammed Al Naima
Registrars: (comencing Feb 2016) Dr Hormuz Parekh, Dr David Breed

Practice Nurses work at both Beaufort and Skipton GP Clinics and they are available to provide individual support to assist people who are at risk of or who have a chronic illness such as diabetes, asthma, heart disease, osteoarthritis and chronic pain. The practice nurses prepare the individual patient management plans that are provided to the doctor and enable a holistic approach to the management of the patient’s chronic condition. Management of a patient’s chronic condition is not confined to immediate medical treatment and incorporates all the services the Health Service offers.

The Practice Nurses also provide support to the doctors by initiating health assessment for ages 45-49 years which is used to determine whether patients are at risk of developing a chronic disease; and for the over 75 years which is used to determine whether there are services which could be provided for patients to manage their medical condition.

In addition to the management of chronic disease and health assessments the practice nurses also provide wound management, immunisation and general observation checks as part of their role within the medical practice.

As part of the team approach within the practice, patients are generally referred to the practice nurses by the doctors, but patients can also initiate these appointments by ringing reception and requesting an appointment with the nurse.

Other services include: podiatry, physiotherapy, social worker, counsellor, dietitian, massage therapy, diabetes educator, occupational therapist
